Comics and Graphic Novels
(A lo-fi pastel web-log by Emma Lesur)
Today, success in comics is competitive and highly sought out. There are many skilled artists in the market, and not all of them are able to get a job with publishers, as the field is very saturated. The reality is that you are much more likely to find work as an illustrator with broader skill sets, such as design, printing, animation, and editing.

Aiming to get published by or work for a big company might not be realistic, but thanks to the internet, independent artists with some business savvy are very capable of achieving a decent earning by marketing their own work.

There is now a great deal of ease in designing, printing and selling your work online, which makes printing comic zines and small comics a very achievable goal. There is also a greater attraction towards independent artists with the emergence of social media, with the ability for them to pander to certain trends and people’s specific interests, as well as a sense of connection/parasocial relationship with the artist through digital updates.
